Denver Wastewater Building Renovation

Denver, CO (04/07/21) – The Denver Wastewater Building is an iconic feature along the South Platte River valley in downtown Denver. Adjacent to both I-25 and 6th Avenue, thousands of motorists pass this building every day. Howell was selected as the Construction Manager/General Contractor by the City and County of Denver to renovate the interiors of three floors and improve the site for ADA access. The design by Stantec included removing many of the private offices in order to create an open and collaborative space. Three-dimensional feature walls at each floor were milled by a CNC machine to create street maps of several of Denver’s neighborhoods. Howell exceeded the minority/women-owned business enterprise goal of 25% in completing the project under budget and on schedule.

“Historically, Denver has procured construction projects through a lump sum bid process. This project was procured through a best value delivery method, which allowed our team to get involved in preconstruction budgeting and planning,” said Collin Jacobsen, Howell’s project manager. “The partnership established with Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure project team during the preconstruction phase carried through construction completion and made this project highly successful. We were able to return savings back to the Owner at the end of the project, which is great news for the City at a time when budgets are so tight.”
