UCHealth – Broomfield Rehabilitation Renovation
Howell Construction was selected by UCHealth to install a new RTU above two operating rooms within their Broomfield Hospital. Surrounded by an additional two occupied operating rooms on either side, extensive preplanning and communication throughout the project duration was essential. Prior to construction start, Howell and the UCHealth facilities crew walked the rooftop to determine the safest way to access the area without impacting ongoing operations in the surgery center. Throughout construction, daily huddles with Howell’s Superintendent, head nurses, and facilities crew determined each day’s scope of work. The Howell team reviewed the surgery center schedule each morning to ensure everyone was on the same page. Noisy activities and any work that had to do with soldering, welding, or cutting was paused during surgeries. To ensure dust control, Howell utilized negative air machines, air monitors, and containment practices to prevent any negative impacts to the occupied space. Once ready to place the RTU, Method of Procedure (M.O.P.) preplanning and communication were utilized to ensure the successful placement of the unit during off-hours.
