Archer DX – Building A Laboratory
Howell was selected for design-build construction services for the Invitae (formerly ArcherDX) Building A Lab Space adaptive reuse project. The project created four distinct laboratories within a former office space, restroom additions, and interior finish upgrades. The space now houses genomic and biology laboratories dedicated to disease detection. Adaptive reuse construction took place within an occupied building, with operational laboratories. As a result, electrical upgrades and required shutdowns were closely coordinated to ensure critical freezer storage of samples were not impacted. The project scope included installation of contractor-procured and owner-supplied laboratory equipment including autoclaves, dry boxes, dispensers, lyophilizers, a walk-in freezer, a walk-in cooler, fume hoods, laboratory case work, chemical storage, and more. Specialized ceiling panels were installed over each laboratory, providing access to electrical power for the equipment below.
