AdventHealth University Denver – Willow Nursing School
The AdventHealth Willow Nursing School project is a distinctive higher education and healthcare build, created with the direct goal of training and hiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Unlike typical academic facilities, this school was developed by AdventHealth to serve as both a place of education and a workforce pipeline, with capacity for 100 students each term and a clear path into employment at AdventHealth hospitals.
The design of the facility reflects this focus on real-world readiness. It includes Nursing Simulation Labs, a Skills Lab, Sonography SIM, and a Radiography suite with a fully operational X-ray machine. They have incorporated artificial intelligence as a core element of their training approach, using it to drive more adaptive, responsive, and realistic learning experiences. This includes advanced technologies such as high-fidelity mannequins like Hal, an AI-enabled patient simulator capable of multilingual responses and realistic physical interaction. Supporting infrastructure such as strong sound isolation between classrooms, simulation spaces, and control rooms, along with a robust AV package, ensures both in-person and remote learning can be delivered seamlessly. From construction through completion, the project emphasized compliance with healthcare and academic standards. Sustainability was also integrated through LED lighting, smart controls, and low-VOC finishes specified by our design partner, Boulder and Associates.
Additionally, the project was built in an operational office building, requiring careful planning to minimize disruptions to surrounding facilities through early morning work, controlled material deliveries, and thorough method of procedures for utility impacts. Collaboration with AdventHealth proved to be a cornerstone of the project’s success.
The result is a modern, functional, and welcoming environment for both students and faculty. With spacious offices, a student lounge, and cutting-edge learning spaces, the facility not only enhances the student experience but also strengthens the local healthcare workforce and community well-being.
