UCHealth – Smith Road Pharmacy
With the goal of enhancing efficiency in patient care, UCHealth launched an initiative to optimize operations within its fulfillment warehouse. This project included the installation of a smart pod, conveyor systems, and pharmaceutical packing stations designed to streamline prescription fulfillment. Howell was selected to deliver this transformative project.
The work took place in an occupied, fully operational warehouse that continued to ship and receive UCHealth equipment while construction took place. Working closely with IARX Pharmacy Fulfillment Solutions and JDC Architecture & Design, Howell constructed a 2,000 SF enclosed space to house the smart pod system. As the project’s key innovation, the smart pod features a robotic automated arm that fills prescriptions, caps and labels containers, and moves them through the assembly line for packaging.
Supporting improvements included the installation of linoleum flooring, power pulls, and pneumatic tubing supported by Unistrut hangers. The scope also included the addition of a pass-through walkway connecting the existing pharmacy to the new pharmacy and eyewash station, enhancing workflow in the facility. Howell delivered the space to house this complex pharmacy solution with no disruptions to the warehouse staff.
The completion of this project marks a significant advancement in UCHealth’s fulfillment operations, advancing patient care through innovative technology
