Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Howell Construction is dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive culture amongst our entire workforce. It is within our best interest to promote diversity and eliminate discrimination in the workplace. Our aim is to ensure all employees and job applicants are given equal opportunity and that our organization represents the communities we serve. Each employee will be respected and valued, and able to give their best effort as a result. All employees, whether they are part-time, full-time, or temporary, will be treated fairly and with respect. When Howell selects candidates for employment, promotion, training, or any other benefit, it will be on the basis of their aptitude and ability. All employees will be given help and encouragement to develop their full potential and utilize their unique talents; therefore, the skills and resources of our organization will be fully utilized, and we will maximize the efficiency of our entire workforce.
Howell added Stephanie Cicerelli, Manager of People and Talent, to our team in 2022. Stephanie’s role is to identify the process for Howell to grow our capacity in a manner that maximizes diversity of potential team members, while maintaining culture. The construction industry has long been characterized by its lack of diversity. Stephanie is helping us on a corporate and individual project level to attract talented individuals to our company who might not have recognized this industry as a career option before.
STUDENT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
As part of our commitment to our education clients, while providing professional construction services on their campuses, we reach out to the educational institution and its student body to identify potential summer internship candidates from their diverse student base. This allows us to reach students who may not otherwise be exposed to our industry and its career possibilities.
To facilitate our ability to make good on the promise above, Howell has invested in ZweigWhite ElevateHER, a program designed to increase diversity and inclusion in the AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) industry. We nominated Anne Brummett, Howell Project Manager, to participate in the 2022 ElevateHER Cohort and she was accepted! Her participation represents a financial contribution by Howell, and an opportunity to learn industry-leading standards to drive the DEI concepts further throughout our Culture.
